Director Yoon Jong-bin (Nine Puzzles) is getting ready for his next project following his successful foray into dramas with a new movie called Ordinary People (working title). Casting offers have been made to Ha Jung-woo (Narco-Saints), a longtime collaborator of Director Yoon’s, as well as Sohn Seok-gu (Nine Puzzles), his latest leading man.
The new film is reportedly a period piece taking place during the Roh Tae-woo administration. Serving as the sixth president of South Korea from 1988 to 1993, President Roh was the successor of Chun Doo-hwan and the first elected president under the current democratic constitution of South Korea. A divisive figure in Korean politics, Roh was convicted of a litany of charges including treason and corruption.
The movie is still in its early stages with plans to start shooting sometime next year. If Ha accepts the role, this will be his sixth project with Yoon. Known as Director Yoon’s persona, Ha met the younger director in college and starred in his directorial debut film The Unforgiven. He then continued to work with him for his next three movies, Beastie Boys, Nameless Gangster: Rules of The Time, and Kundo: Age of the Rampant. Most recently, Ha also played the leading role in Yoon’s first drama Narco-Saints, a dramatized story of real-life drug smuggler Jo Bong-haeng.
As for Sohn, the two worked together on Yoon’s last project Nine Puzzles which finished airing last month on Disney+. The drama was Yoon’s first directorial project where he did not work on the script, and both his directing as well as Sohn’s performance were met with high praise. Though nothing has been confirmed, the idea of a reunion between these three figures has generated plenty of buzz and expectation.
With casting still underway for Ordinary People, the project is in development and has yet announced a timeline for its release.
