Culinary leveling with Park Ji-hoon the Military Cook
by solstices

Park Ji-hoon
Confirming the culinary lineup for its fantasy menu, TVING’s upcoming comedy Military Cook, Becoming a Legend has dished up casting news to whet our appetites. Adapted from the webnovel of the same name, the twelve-parter will have its personnel wielding kitchen knives instead of sniper rifles and donning aprons in place of armor.
Putting on his chef hat, Park Ji-hoon (Weak Hero Class 2) stars as Kang Sung-jae, an elite recruit with excellent performance records. Alas, having come from an underprivileged background, Sung-jae finds his path blocked by prejudice. Instead of sailing smoothly through his military life with flying colors, Sung-jae gets reassigned to Kangrim Outpost as a military cook.
As if to rub salt in the wound, an unfamiliar voice begins to creep its way into Sung-jae’s head. But instead of snickering at his plight, it begins delivering quests to him instead. Thus begins Sung-jae’s kitchen (mis)adventures, thanks to the mysterious voice spicing up his military days with a side of culinary missions.

Yoon Kyung-ho, Han Dong-hee, Lee Hong-nae
Stepping in as Sung-jae’s sergeant, we have Yoon Kyung-ho (The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call) as Park Jae-young of the Fourth Company. With a history of colorful incidents and hapless accidents, Jae-young has earned himself the nickname “Time Bomb.” Unfortunately, promotions evade Jae-young time and time again. With the arrival of the headache-inducing new recruit, it seems Jae-young might be on the way to sprouting a few more white hairs.
Perhaps he might be able to commiserate with Han Dong-hee (Gyeongseong Creature 2), who’s bound to heave a few sighs as the straightforward and conscientious lieutenant Jo Ye-rin. As a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet — in contrast to her peers, who graduated from the illustrious Korea Military Academy — Ye-rin is the squad’s ugly duckling who just wants to pass her days quietly. But like it or not, it seems Sung-jae’s array of culinary fare is about to bring some variety to Ye-rin’s table.
To round out our main quartet, Lee Hong-nae (Strong Girl Nam-soon) plays the military chef Yoon Dong-hyun, who somehow ended up in the kitchen despite being absolutely clueless when it comes to matters of taste. Infamous for bringing the “dark ages” upon the military kitchen, Dong-hyun has been treading with the utmost trepidation while counting down the hundred days left till his discharge. That is, until Sung-jae sweeps into the kitchen like a culinary whirlwind, entirely upending Dong-hyun’s plans to lay low. Is it time for a mentorship arc?
Directed by PD Jo Nam-hyung (A Superior Day) with scripts penned by Choi Ryong (The Chairman is Level 9, My 20th Twenty), Military Cook, Becoming a Legend will serve its entrée in the first half of 2026.
