Lee Sun-bin hopes her stocks will soar To the Moon

Script reading stills are out for MBC’s upcoming slice of life Let’s Go to the Moon, giving us a peek at the cast. Based on Jang Ryu-jin’s bestselling novel To the Moon, the narrative follows the everyday lives of three women. Fed up with stagnating in their mundane jobs with meager pay, they pin their hopes on cryptocurrency, praying that the stock prices will skyrocket — to the moon.
At the center of this tale is Jung Da-hae, played by Lee Sun-bin (The Potato Lab). As part of the marketing team in Maron Confectionery, she barely makes ends meet with her paltry salary. Trapped in her appallingly tiny studio apartment, Da-hae’s dream of a decent new abode remains ever-elusive. Perhaps that’s why a trip to the moon — figurative or otherwise — sounds so appealing.
At her job, Da-hae bonds with two fellow colleagues who also started work on the same day. The first is Ra Mi-ran (Jeongnyeon – The Star is Born) as Kang Eun-sang, a savvy member of the business administration team. With money always on her mind, Eun-sang is no stranger to devising quick-profit schemes, such as running a minimart out of her office desk. When that falls through, Eun-sang turns to the tantalizing potential of the cryptocurrency Ethereum.
On the contrary, the final member of our trio is a great deal more skeptical. Jo Ah-ram (The Auditors) plays the cautious Kim Ji-song of the accounting team, who’s as frugal with her money as she can be. That is, apart from all her trips to Taipei, in order to meet her long-distance Taiwanese boyfriend. When Eun-sang dives headfirst into cryptocurrency and pulls Da-hae along with her, Ji-song initially hesitates — until the feeling of being left out slowly creeps up on her.
In contrast to our leading ladies, Kim Young-dae (No Gain No Love) plays the executive director Ham Ji-woo, who leads the big data TF team with competence and confidence. As the youngest person to ever hold his position, Ji-woo may as well be a second-generation chaebol that walked straight out of a TV drama. However, just as our ladies are chasing higher incomes, Ji-woo also has a pursuit of his own — the dreams he’d folded and tucked away in a corner.
Amidst their mundane desk jobs, our three friends weather the ups and downs of stock trading, painting a picture of a better life with the colours of a successful cash out. They’ll need nerves of steel to hang onto their shares with “diamond hands” as the price rises and falls like an intergalactic rollercoaster. Will their investment pay off in the end, or will they wind up crashing and burning?
Directed by Oh Da-young (Oh! Master) and Jung Hoon (The Forbidden Marriage), with scripts penned by Na Yoon-chae, Let’s Go to the Moon is slated for a September 19 premiere.
