Mac-style features tipped to arrive on iOS 19 and iPadOS 19
Earlier this month, Bloomberg claimed that Apple plans to push the iPad closer to a Mac-like experience by improving productivity, multitasking, and app window management. Tipster Majin Bu seems to have some insights on what’s coming.
In the case of iPadOS 19, Bu says the interface will show a menu bar at the top when the iPad is connected to a Magic Keyboard. This will transform the iPad into a more laptop-like user experience like macOS.
Stage Manager 2.0 will also be enabled with a Magic Keyboard. Bu describes it as “an enhanced multitasking mode” that makes managing apps and windows “smoother and more productive than ever”.
Users of iPhones with USB-C won’t be left behind in the productivity push. Bu’s source claims these iPhones will support external displays and offer a Stage Manager-like interface.
Even though it may not offer a true full desktop mode, this interface will allow users to extend their screen space for presentations, editing, or a better viewing experience. However, Bu cautions there could be limitations in resolution or the number of apps that can be shown.
WWDC 2025 is shaping up to be a significant year for the Apple ecosystem. A massive UI redesign is expected for iOS, macOS, iPadOS, and watchOS. Moreover, the integration of productivity features across devices will lead to a more unified user experience.
WWDC 2025 will take place on the week of 9 June later this year.
