Apple’s rumoured foldable iPhone will use Samsung OLED panel for one reason
Apple has reportedly selected Samsung Display as the sole supplier of OLED panels for its rumoured foldable iPhone.
Business Korea reports that Samsung managed to edge out LG Display and BOE due to its “technological edge in minimising screen creases.” While Apple would have preferred more diversity in the supply chain, an industry insider claims “Samsung was the only viable choice“.
This aligns with ETNews’ February report that Samsung Display fulfilled Apple’s stringent technical requirements and delivered foldable display samples with no creases.
The crease is supposedly the biggest problem with foldable phones today. Even though some Chinese phone brands have managed to significantly reduce the visibility of the crease, it is still noticeable at certain angles.
Apple is also said to use a liquid metal hinge to improve durability, screen flatness, and to minimise crease marks on its foldable iPhone.
The foldable iPhone and a “bold new Pro model” are believed to be part of Apple’s “major shake-up” for the iPhone lineup in 2026.
