News bites: April 10, 2025

Nam Ji-hyun, Kim Jae-young

  • A new spicy rom-com is in works, reportedly pairing a super conservative Nam Ji-hyun (Good Partner) with sex toy salesman Kim Jae-young (The Judge from Hell) in Nyun-eo (romanized, working title). Based on the setup, my best guess is that it’s an alternate pronunciation or play on the word for Confucius’ Analects (“Nohn-eo”). Directed by PD Kim Ye-ji (Shadenfreude) with scripts by Ahn Sae-bom (Soundtrack #1), the series will hopefully be a fun reunion for the two actors after previously playing siblings in 100 Days My Prince. • Im Soo-jung (Melancholia) is reviewing an offer to become husband and wife with Ha Jung-woo (Narco-Saints) in the crime-thriller How to Become a Building Owner in South Korea (roughly translated, previously Building Owner). With Krystal (Crazy Love) also still in talks, production is being led by filmmaker Im Pil-sung (Persona, Scarlet Innocence) and is planning to start filming later this year. [10 Asia, Newsen]
  • Choi Hyun-wook (My Dearest Nemesis) is said to be shedding his black dragon scales to frolic with vampires instead, reportedly joining a secretive Suzy (Doona) and a (still?) no-name artist Kim Sun-ho (When Life Gives You Tangerines) in the period fantasy Delusion. The supernatural mystery will unfold against the backdrop of the Japanese annexation, with filmmaker Han Jae-rim (The 8 Show, Emergency Declaration) attached to direct. [Osen]

  • Casting continues for the remake of Swedish series Honor, with Kwak Sun-young (Crash) now being courted alongside Lee Na-young (One Day Off) and Jung Eun-chae (Jeongnyeon – The Star is Born) to play our main attorney trio. The mystery-thriller is in the early stages and is expected to start filming this summer once casting has been finalized. [JTBC, Xports News]
  • Speaking of Jung Eun-chae, she’s also fielding an offer from JTBC’s The Story of Seoul Home Owner and Corporate Director Mr. Kim (roughly translated), which stars Ryu Seung-ryong (Chicken Nugget) and Myung Se-bin (Missing Crown Prince). The slice-of-life office comedy is aiming to premiere later this year, with PD Jo Hyun-tak (The Atypical Family, SKY Castle) leading the team. [Star News, Newsen]
  • New character posters have dropped on KBS for Pump Up the Healthy Love, where our fitness-obsessed Lee Jun-young (When Life Gives You Tangerines) is determined to train our foodie Jung Eun-ji (Miss Night and Day). Written by Kim Ji-soo (Birthcare Center) with PD Park Joon-soo (Gaus Electronics) and PD Choi Yeon-soo co-directing, the sports rom-com will be launching on April 30 this month.[Sports Donga]
