Premiere Watch: Beyond the Bar

Time slot: Saturday & Sunday
Broadcaster: JTBC
Genre: Legal, workplace
Episode count: 12
Global streamer: Netflix
Reasons to watch: JTBC is adding to dramaland’s legal offerings with its latest show, Beyond the Bar. Starring Jung Chae-yeon and Lee Jin-wook, it’s a peek into the inner workings of a major law firm, with a focus on two people at opposite ends of the firm’s pecking order.
Jung and Lee are polar opposites in pretty much all ways, including how they approach law and their clients. Jung Chae-yeon is all heart when it comes to her approach to cases and clients. Lee Jin-wook is clinical and cold, and feelings never play a factor in how he practices law.
As the lowest rung on the attorney ladder, Jung Chae-yeon has no choice but to work with firm partner Lee Jin-wook. As they work together handling clients, they both grow as people and learn how different approaches to law can all have their uses.
I have just one wish: No romance please! Let this be just a regular mentorship because the actors give me major uncle/niece vibes.
TL;DR: A rookie attorney learning the ins-and-outs of law and the real world under the tutelage of a seasoned mentor.
