    Reasons to watch: Bon Appetit Your Majesty from tvN features Yoon-ah, Lee Chae-min, Kang Hanna, and Choi Gi-hwa in a rom-com fantasy set in the past and present.

    Yoon-ah is a thoroughly modern woman, living in the 21st century and working as a chef whose prospects are on the rise. Her ambitions are cut short when she ends up falling through a crack in time, landing right in historical Joseon. Gone are the modern conveniences of life that she’s used to, and she struggles to get her bearings until she crosses paths with the king (played by Lee Chae-min).

    The king happens to get a taste of Yoon-ah’s cooking, and she’s ordered to work in the palace kitchen for him. He’s tyrannical and has a temper when it comes to his food. An unsatisfying dish can send him into a frenzy, but everything Yoon-ah plates up for him sparks joy. Though the palace may seem safer than fending for herself in Joseon-era Seoul, it might be more dangerous within the palace walls than outside, especially with the king’s favored consort (played by Kang Hanna) aiming to keep her away from the king.

    I have been burned twice already this year, first by Tastefully Yours, which I thought would offer beautiful food and a compelling romance). Second, by The First Night with the Duke, which I thought would offer fun, time-crossing antics. So I’m hanging my hopes on Bon Appetit to deliver the best of all these worlds and give us a great story with beautiful food, romance, and zaniness galore.

    TL;DR: Fish-out-of-water hijinks in Joseon-era Korea with a dash of palace intrigue.
