Can you believe it’s been 60 years since the first electronic Casio calculator with memory function—the “001” was released? Casio’s history with electronic calculators goes back even further than that. In 1957, it released the “14-A”, which was one of, if not the world’s first compact electronic calculator. At any rate, Casio is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the “001” with a couple of new releases.

Casio clearly thinks there’s still a big enough market for physical calculators, with the release of the new MS-20UC-J calculator series that features three different traditional Japanese patterns.

Available in Asanoha Red, Seigaiha Blue and Takekago White, the Japanese patterns used are supposed to signify good luck. Casio Singapore’s website indicates these calculators should be sold in Singapore, although the individual product pages aren’t available yet.

A new design calculator, Comfy JT-200T, has also been announced, which comes with a solar panel and is made from eco-friendly, scratch-resistant materials for sustainable long-term use.

The solar panel is strategically placed at the top edge of the calculator, and 59% of the chassis is made with recycled plastic.

This calculator is intended to be sold on an ongoing basis and will not be a limited anniversary model. This model doesn’t appear on Casio Singapore’s website, although it’s going for ¥3,850 (around S$35) on Casio Japan’s website.

We will update this article with local pricing and availability when we have more information.
