Cutting down reliance on US military equipment « Current Affairs « Opinions « TR EMERITUS
There is a rampant rumor going around that claims Egypt has ordered 48 J10C with a price tag of USD$25B from China after the Pakistan’s successful air battles against India.
An Egyptian officer was seen sitting at the back seat of a J10S, a trainer jet during the Egyptian Chinese air exercise.
The rumors about Egypt procuring Chinese J10C fighter jet is not new. The first rumor started in August 2024.
I don’t think Egypt has put up a purchase order of J10C because it still has an option to purchase South Korean FA50.
Egypt benefited from US military aids that worth 1.5B per year and it has purchased quite a substantial number of F-16 from US. If it decided to purchase China’s J10C, it may lose these military aids from America.
However, there is one important reason why Egypt may switch to Chinese J10C jet fighter system.
In the Indian Pakistan Conflict, we can see clearly that the Americans have demanded Pakistan not to use F-16 it has purchased from US for this conflict, or else it will disabled these F-16 using remote control.
Imagine if there was to be a conflict between Egypt and Israel, US could just ban Egypt from using its huge fleet of F-16! Egypt and all other Middle East countries which depended on US F-16 would be put on a leash with the Americans controlling them!
I believe Egypt and other Middle East countries like Saudi Arabia will eventually equip themselves with alternative military equipments and cut down their reliance on US.
It will be just a matter of time Egypt will place its order for Chinese J10C and the full range of military equipment.
