Notes on Multi-Season Dramas
As more k dramas are coming out in seasons, this becomes more and more relevant. We’re using the same procedures this year as last year, but a reminder for anyone new:
As a general rule, multi-season shows are listed as separate shows on the spreadsheet. This is due to the fact that a) people sometimes only list one season, and I need a way to represent that preference, and b) dramas often release in different years, so it’s important to note that the 2022 poll couldn’t be referring to Taxi Driver season 2 (for example). The only time I don’t tally a show’s seasons separately is if the Drama Chat responses always list the show as one season (e.g., last year, “My Dearest” was never separated by season, so it’s only one show on the list).
If a comment doesn’t specify a season, we will tally all seasons. If you list a show without specifying the season(s) (e.g., “Forest of Secrets”), we’ll put a tally in both seasons of the show. This is to side on overrepresentation rather than underrepresentation (though we might ask you if we have reason to doubt). If you want to be clearer, though, list both seasons so we’ll make sure we add it correctly. 🙂
You are welcome to count multiple seasons as one show. While they are tallied separately, I don’t think listing multiple seasons as one show means you’re breaking the “10 dramas” rule. We’ve factored in a buffer in the number of shows that allows for these shows to be counted as one (particularly because most of us think of these shows as one show, not multiple separate entities). I’ve only had one time when a person listed enough multi-season dramas that it pushed them over the buffer limit. If that happens, we’ll check with you to see if you want to narrow your list more to be included on the list — but no obligation.
If just one season of a multi-season show is in your top 10, specify the season. Since we’ll assume all seasons if there are no seasons listed, make sure to indicate if you’re listing a specific season. For example, I put Alchemy of Souls season 1 on my list this year but I’m not a fan of season 2, so I made sure to list the “1”.
There are several somewhat arbitrary decisions that I made when building the original spreadsheet, but hopefully the reasons behind those decision make sense. If you have any questions, feel free to @ me, and I can try to answer. 🙂
