Good Boy: Episodes 13-14

The action ramps up in our penultimate week, as our good boys finally start to good boy. There’s back-stabbings and betrayals in the enemy camp while the good guys continue to forge ahead in unity. But even with their seeming triumph, it is not over until it’s over.

EPISODES 13-14

We resume with an update on our bad guys. Baek waylays and murders Golden Bunny on his way to testify against Joo-young. Leo storms the pawnshop to kill Sergei — but not before extracting some info about the murder of a father I didn’t even know he had. Don’t get me wrong, he obviously didn’t spawn from thin air. But he has never mentioned his father before now, or maybe I missed it. Thankfully, Geum-nam wasn’t in the shop and Hair Transplant hid in the closet, so our two fav sidekicks are still alive. Phew!

Speaking of father-son pairs we never heard about until now, it turns out Joo-young is Oh Dollar’s son. I don’t even understand how this happened, but somehow, our good boys follow a paper trail to unearth this birth secret. Hanna follows the same trail and ends up at one of Oh Dollar’s multi-floored properties — which is now Joo-young’s base of operations. Ms. Sniper is about to shoot Joo-young when Drugmon comes to crash the party because she found out that Joo-young got her sister (Orphanage Girl) hooked on Candy. Drugmon is out for blood, but Baek’s goons quickly subdue her before she does any damage.

Joo-young’s mole in the agency calls to inform him that Hanna is at his base, and the lucky bastard narrowly escapes a fatal shot. Aish! He unleashes his goons to find her, and we get a really cool action sequence ft. Hanna and her gun against the goons. The action culminates when she runs out of bullets and Joo-young shoots her. Luckily, she’s wearing a bulletproof vest. Phew! Joo-young taunts Hanna for having zero evidence of his long list of crimes, but Mr. Oversharer doesn’t realize — until it’s too late — that she’s livestreaming the whole thing! Muwahahahaha!!! See, Dong-joo, this is what happens when people use their brains instead of their fists.

Drugmon slips Hanna a gun, but Joo-young overpowers her and snatches it. Shit! I’ve always known I’m not patient enough to be a TV villain because I would have pulled the trigger immediately. But because Joo-young is not me, he pauses to catch his breath and say goodbye to Hanna — giving Leo ample time to appear on the scene with his own gun. “If you pull that trigger, you’ll die too,” Leo warns, and we learn it was Joo-young who killed his father. Once again, I am not patient enough. Because what do you mean Leo has a gun to Joo-young’s head, but he stalls long enough for Baek to come in and stab him?! Ugh! *pulls out my hair in frustration* But on the bright side, Leo helps Hanna escape. And this is payback for her dad saving him from his father’s enemies when he was much younger.

We get another flashback to moments after Joo-young murdered Oh Dollar. Leo’s dad was tied up in Dollar’s boot, and Joo-young shot him before getting rid of the car. By the time he returned to the crime scene, Hanna’s dad and other cops were already at the scene. This is where Dad picked the wristwatch — which is now in Hanna’s possession. In week two, we learnt this particular watch is one gram heavier than it should be, and the discrepancy makes sense since we now know the watch is fake.

To cover his tracks, Joo-young lied to Leo that Oh Dollar killed his father and that Hanna’s dad covered up for Dollar. This then ties into what we already know about Dad’s murder: Leo shot Dad’s car before recognizing him as the good cop from his younger days. Unsurprisingly, the extended part of this flashback reveals that Joo-young swooped in to take the killing shot. In the present, Leo confronts Joo-young for lying to him, but he’s gunned down by Joo-young’s goons. Noooo! But at least Leo gets to take his last breath in Drugmon’s arms — and dare I say these two had a better love story than Dong-joo and Hanna.

Before Leo parted ways with Hanna, he gave her a camera he took from Dad’s car on the night of the murder. It was a gift Dad got for Hanna — but the real gift, albeit bittersweet, is the footage of his murder that’s recorded on the camera. Ha! I’d like to see Joo-young weasel his way out the mountain of evidence Hanna has on him now. I can’t even lie, episode 13 is the best one yet! Dong-joo was out of commission for most of it, but I barely noticed his absence because Hanna was giving me everything I needed and more. There’s always progress whenever she takes the reins, and I’m not sure why Show uses her sparingly.

Unfortunately, Dong-joo wakes up in the middle of Hanna’s accomplishments, and the first thing he does is swallow a handful of painkillers because he is ready to put himself in harm’s way again. Ugh! After beating up a dozen goons at the safehouse and storming a politicians’ gathering to punch the police commissioner, Dong-joo joins the other good boys at Joo-young’s base of operations. We get another round of action ft. the gentlemanly Jae-hong and the clownish Man-shik against a set of goons. Lol. Jong-hyeon faces Baek, Hanna shoots everyone standing in her way, and Dong-joo distributes free samples of his fists.

Drugmon joins in the fun with a grenade from God knows where, and Joo-young’s penthouse goes up in flames. The explosion queen is back, y’all! Hehe. Sadly, Joo-young the roach manages to escape, and Drugmon is caught in a secondary explosion. Dang! She barely survives and has to be rushed to the hospital. The cops descend on Joo-young’s base of operations, and our good boys have to smuggle Dong-joo out in a trash bin because he’s still on the wanted list. Heh. They have a celebratory dinner at Man-shik’s house before parting ways.

At Jae-hong’s house, we get a touching scene where he sights his bronze medal — which he’s ashamed of — and his wife slaps the shame out of his back because she and the kids are proud of him whether he has a bronze or a gold, or he’s medal-less. Aww. One thing leads to the other in Hanna’s house, and she and Dong-joo attempt to spend some ~quality~ time together. Her mom’s sudden and unwanted arrival kills the mood, but I can’t even be mad because I was uncomfortable seeing Hanna’s head so close to the sofa’s armrest. Dong-joo has to spend the night at Jong-hyeon “hyung’s” place — but this guy needs a house ASAP, because Hanna deserves better than a homeless boyfriend.

As the week wraps, our good boys discover that Joo-young’s mole is the rookie in Dae-young’s team. Joo-young is still in the wind, but they can’t track him via Rookie because the guy ends up dead — or more accurately, murdered. Dong-joo infers that Joo-young might be hiding in the most unlikely place — and true to his words, the criminal is comfortably seated in the police commissioner’s office while tons of officers are out there hunting for him! Smh. Joo-young takes the commissioner hostage when our good boys arrive, and he escapes after Hanna shoots the commissioner in the butt. Pfft.

Dong-joo chases Joo-young to the parking lot, but Coach Oh surprises him with a heavyweight punch! I’m equally surprised because last we saw, Baek’s guys kidnapped Oh. The lights begin to flicker in Dong-joo’s eyes — and this is bad news because his doctor warned that he could lose his sight if he refuses to get treatment for his brain injury. Sigh.

This is my fav week so far, and it’s largely because our good boys got under Joo-young’s skin. I have never seen him so frustrated and rattled! His criminal enterprise was shaken to the core, and I don’t know how he’s going to stage a comeback. He’s nearing the end of his rope, and it’s left for our good boys to properly hang him. Hopefully, they don’t hang themselves in the process. *coughs* Dong-joo *coughs*
