Google lays off employees from its Android, Chrome, and Pixel teams
There is another round of layoffs at Google, according to The Information.
Google reportedly laid off hundreds of employees from its Platforms and Devices division. This business unit has over 25,000 employees working on Android, ChromeOS, Chrome browser, Pixel, and Nest devices.
A Google spokesperson said:
Since combining the platforms and devices teams last year, we’ve focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively and this included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that we offered in January.
This round of layoffs comes shortly after Google offered buyouts in January “for those struggling to meet the demands of their role or those unhappy with the company’s hybrid work setup”. It also laid off about 100 employees from the YouTube team.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai shared late last year that the layoffs are part of the company’s restructuring to focus on new projects such as AI.
