Lee Min-ki tries to stop Lee Bo-young in Mary Kills People

MBC has released a new teaser for medical drama Mary Kills People, capturing the tense atmosphere between leads Lee Bo-young (Hide) and Lee Min-ki (Face Me). A remake of the Canadian series of the same name, the upcoming show tackles the topic of assisted dying as our titular “Mary” operates an illegal euthanasia clinic.
The teaser opens with a scene between Dr. Woo So-jung (Lee Bo-young) and detective Jo Hyun-woo (Lee Min-ki). She offers to send him to the place he wants, and the scene cuts to her partner and fellow doctor Kang Ki-young (Queen of Divorce) who repeats the same thing.
As a patient screams in pain, a mother asks to let her child die. Unlike most of her colleagues, So-jung prescribes her patients something different: death. However, no matter her intentions, not everyone approves, including Hyun-woo. Sirens blare in the distance as two officers stop So-jung in a hospital, and Hyun-woo tells her, “Stop what you are doing now.”
While our two leads stand on opposite sides of this dilemma, things start to get complicated for everyone. So-jung asks what made him this way, wondering if he is fine with tricking others in order to reach his goal. As if proving her right, Hyun-woo kisses So-jung but then vows to catch her no matter what.
So-jung counters that he never will because she committed no sin, and the show teases an intense clash between two different ideals of justice. Car chases, guns, explosions, and crashes, it seems So-jung will have to deal with more than one dogged cop on her tail, but from the steely look in her eyes, I think she is more than ready to fight.
Directed by PD Park Joon-woo (Crash, Taxi Driver) and written by Lee Soo-ah (Inseparable Bros, Unemployed Romance), MBC’s Mary Kills People premieres August 1 in the Friday-Saturday slot.
