A new teaser has been dropped for Amazon Prime’s first original Korean drama The Confidence Man KR (working title), a remake of the popular Japanese series The Confidence Man JP. Following a trio of con artists who swindle villains, Park Min-young (Marry My Husband) stars as the group’s leader and brains of the operation alongside teammates Park Hee-soon (Squid Game 3) and Joo Jong-hyuk (The Witch).
The teaser opens with swindler Yoon Yi-rang (Park Min-young) slipping off her jeogori and revealing a tattoo across her back in front of an enraptured crowd. She stands with her head held high as she explains the motivation behind her work: “People who have sinned should not die and go to hell. They need to experience hell in the living world.”
Sweet yet deadly, Yi-rang is as dangerous as she is beautiful with a competitive streak to boot. As she examines her ominous wall of red string, it seems her target list is expansive, and Yi-rang playfully promises, “I just won’t kill them!?”
While men flock to Yi-rang entranced by her charms, her extravagant looks belie her fighting prowess, and she easily takes down her opponents and points a gun at the camera. The scene then cuts to Yi-rang’s partners James (Park Hee-soon) and Myung Gu-ho (Joo Jong-hyuk) looking appalled as they call their leader insane.
Yi-rang laughs in the face of their worry and assures them that the charm of cons is in improvising. From paragliding instructor to pop star, Yi-rang can play it all, so why waste her natural talents? She confidently calls herself a “genius sociopath” and stares at the audience with a final seductive look.
Directed by PD Nam Ki-hoon (Destined with You, Big Bet) with scripts written by Hong Seung-hyun (Criminal Minds), The Confidence Man KR is slated for twelve episodes and premieres September 6.
