PlayStation Plus sees price hike all across the world, including Singapore
It’s no secret that the price of everything nowadays seems to be going up. This includes not just goods in the video game industry, but services too, as it appears that Sony has been increasing the price of PlayStation Plus subscriptions. And this trend extends to Singapore.
To set the record straight, the 12-month prices for the PlayStation Plus tiers prior to the price increase were S$79.99 for Essential, $134.99 for Extra, and $159.99 for Deluxe. Effective from 16 April, the new prices for a PlayStation Plus subscription are as such:
- Essential: S$10.90/month, S$24.99/three months, $88.90/year
- Extra: S$15.90/month, S$44.90/three months, S$142.90/year
- Deluxe: S$18.90/month, S$53.90/three months, $169.90/year
As a whole, the 12-month subscription prices have gone up by about S$10, while monthly subscription renewal prices have gone up by around S$1.
It’s important to note that although the change has taken place, current subscribers will still be charged under the previous pricing until the next payment date on or after 24 June 2025. This will affect monthly subscribers most immediately, while those who subscribed for the quarterly or yearly plans might be able to stave it off for a few more months, or if they are lucky, bypass it for the next billing cycle if their subscription renews before 24 June.
However, should you wish to upgrade, downgrade or buy additional time, you will have to pay the new prices. And if you’re not a PlayStation Plus subscriber and wish to subscribe, you’ll have to pay the new prices no matter what.
It appears this price increase isn’t just a regional thing, too. Sony originally mentioned on its global blog that the increase would only apply to Southeast Asian countries (particularly Singapore, Malaysia Thailand and Indonesia), but it looks like Canada, Latin America, East Asia and Oceania will also see PlayStation Plus prices increase.
Sony, on its part, noted that the price increase was due to “global market conditions”, and that it was necessary to “continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscriptions service”. Although it’s not a mandatory subscription, PlayStation Plus gives players not just access to new games monthly, but also important services including online multiplayer for paid titles and, for PS5 owners, the ability to backup their save files via cloud storage.
