Samsung adds Galaxy A26 5G to its entry-level phone arsenal in Singapore (updated)
Note: This article was first published on 21 March 2025.
11 April 2025 update: Samsung also brought in the Galaxy A26 5G, another entry-level phone that has slightly more to offer. Details below.
While Samsung is better known for its premium flagship handsets (like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra) in Singapore, not everyone believes in blowing big money on handsets that’ll become obsolete in a few years. There will always be users who only need the barest of digital necessities and treat it as a mere tool, acting as a means to an end.
Samsung Galaxy A06 5G
The latest Samsung device catering to these users is the entry-level Samsung Galaxy A06 5G, officially available in Singapore at just S$228. This device adopts the traits of expensive handsets, made more accessible in multiple ways. It’s also the basic-tier representative of Samsung’s Galaxy A-series like its midrange Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A56 5G mobiles.
On-board is a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 phone processor, a 2024 entry-level chipset found on similarly low-cost smartphones like the OPPO A3 Pro 5G and Vivo Y29 5G.
The display is a 6.7-inch LCD with HD+ resolution (1,600 x 720 pixels) and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. Even though the panel won’t have AMOLED’s vibrancy and deep blacks, users can still enjoy online content recorded at higher frame rates.
It has a single 50MP main camera with AutoFocus, which is supported by a 2MP depth camera for extra imaging data. Its 8MP front camera handles online video calls.
Below is where the Galaxy A06 5G starts venturing into perks and features seen in higher-end mobiles, many of which are tailored to make day-to-day use easier and more comfortable.
It packs a 5,000mAh battery with 25W wired charging, granting Galaxy A06 5G a decent uptime with reasonably quick recharges.
It also has IP54-rated water and dust resistance. Samsung said the phone’s durability tests withstood 10L of fresh water for five minutes “from all angles.” From our perspective, it is great to see how a device’s elemental resistance is recognised as a basic need these days.
The phone also has the latest One UI 7 (based on Android 15) operating system, which means no skimping out on equally essential security and privacy features. Samsung said Galaxy A06 5G has up to four generations of firmware (Android/One UI) upgrades and four years of security updates — which is really important for those who like their phones to last and stay safe enough for use, down the road.
In Singapore, it’s available in just one variant: 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.
Samsung Galaxy A26 5G
11 April 2025 update: Samsung also introduced the Samsung Galaxy A26 5G, which packs much more than its entry-level positioning and price suggest.
The Galaxy A26 5G still comes with One UI 7 and Samsung’s “Awesome Intelligence” package.
It has most of the AI features seen on the Galaxy A36 and A56 5G, like Circle To Search by Google, Best Face for AI-powered group selfies, Object Eraser for photo-editing with AI tools, and Filters that debuted on the Galaxy S25 series. However, you don’t have to pay Galaxy A56 5G prices for these perks now that they’re on the Galaxy A26 5G.
On the other hand, the abovementioned Galaxy A06 5G above doesn’t have any of these Awesome Intelligence goodies.
So, the Galaxy A26 5G is very special in that it’s entry-level like the A06 5G but has the features of the midrange A36 and A56 5G.
Also, it is the first time the sub-category has received IP67-rated water and dust resistance. This matches Galaxy A36 and A56 5G in IP ratings, and it’s still higher-rated than the Galaxy A06 5G’s IP54 rating.
Samsung did not specify which processor was used for the Galaxy A26 5G, but it is currently listed as the Exynos 1380 on GSMArena.
The rest of the device is what’d you’d expect from a modern Android phone, like its 6.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rates, a triple rear camera setup (50MP main, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro), and a 5,000mAh battery.
