Google is bringing its midrange Pixel 9a to Singapore, packing much of the software available on the regular Pixel 9 series into slightly more affordable hardware.

Like its flagship counterparts, the Google Pixel 9a uses the same Google Tensor G4 processor, which is the main draw of the midrange Pixel handsets. You’re paying less for the same processor, which means the savings come from its components.

The phone has a 48MP main camera and 13MP ultrawide camera, and it’s the first time Google has brought Macro Focus to an A-series device. Pixel software perks like Add Me (a group photo that stitches in the shooter with a second shot) and Night Sight (low-light photography) also return. Like previous A-series phones, Pixel 9a does not have a telephoto camera.

Photo editing perks like Best Take, Photo Unblur, and one-tap Magic Editor are all still fully accessible. Also, built-in Gemini is on the device, granting you AI capabilities like the conversant Gemini Live and Gemini-infused Gmail and Google Maps.

Pixel 9a also qualifies for Pixel Drops, Google’s version of regular software and security updates. Google said that it has the same length of support as its flagship counterparts, seven years, for both types of updates.

Instead of reusing the Camera Bar design, the Pixel 9a has a more streamlined, pill-shaped rear camera cutout. It’s much more flushed against the phone, which is a welcome change. Like its flagship counterparts, it still retains IP68-rated water and dust resistance.

The phone’s 6.3-inch Actua Display (2,424 x 1,080 pixels resolution) has a standard 20:9 aspect ratio with a 60-120Hz refresh rate and up to 1,800-nits HDR brightness (2,700-nits peak). It’s also nice that it retains its on-display fingerprint sensor, which was also available on its predecessor.

Pixel 9a uses 8GB of RAM and a choice between 128GB and 256GB storage. Its 5,100mAh battery supports 23W wired and 7.5W Qi-certified wireless charging. It also supports up to Wi-Fi 6E, NFC, Bluetooth 5.3, and 5G Sub-G connectivity.

Despite its midrange categorisation, you still get dual-SIM compatibility (1x nano-SIM and 1x eSIM).
