East meets west as the past and present collide in tvN’s newest fantasy romance Bon Appetit, Your Majesty. The upcoming webnovel adaptation stars Yoon-ah (King the Land) as French cuisine chef Yeon Ji-young and Lee Chae-min (Crushology 101) as Joseon-era tyrant Lee Heon.

The first teaser introduces the two protagonists in a knife versus sword showdown. In one corner is Ji-young, a head chef of a three-star restaurant, and in the other is her opponent Lee Heon, a king with a perfect sense of taste. While Ji-young is introduced in front of a white backdrop matching her pristine uniform and confidence, the scene switches to Lee Heon who is cast in shadows and red to reflect his royal robes.

As Lee Heon draws his sword, it swings down and morphs into Ji-young’s knife slicing into a hunk of raw meat. She prepares food with exact precision, turning the end of her blade into works of masterpiece, but then the mood shifts as a group of Joseon officers barge through the gates in the middle of the night.

At the height of her career, Ji-young ends up in the past across from the worst king imaginable and must survive using her skills. Thankfully, this chef is ready for the challenge, and no matter her tools or environment, any blade is a tool in Ji-young’s capable hands.

Along with the teaser, tvN also dropped a set of stills for each character showing a sneak peek of their timeslip adventure. Ji-young already looks to have adjusted to her unbelievable circumstances as she dons the clothes of the cooks in the royal palace, and she serves the king food without an air of doubt about her.

In contrast, Lee Heon looks menacing as the stubborn ruler who believes his word is law. Due to his sensitive palate, he can taste even the slightest differences in his food, and coupled with his suspicion of people, he gives his royal chefs a massive headache.

Directed by PD Jang Tae-yoo (Knight Flower) with scripts by fGRD, tvN’s Bon Appetit, Your Majesty dishes out its first episode August 23 in the Saturday-Sunday slot.
