YouTrip finally welcomes Malaysian Ringgit wallet, making that weekend Johor Bahru run even sweeter

YouTrip has finally introduced one of the most requested wallets for its multi-currency app and card. It is none other than the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR)

In short, you can set aside some money and lock it in as MYR whenever the currency situation becomes more favourable.

While YouTrip has always supported payments in multiple currencies with no hidden fees (like MYR and the Thai Baht), the service lacked currency wallets for locking in rates at these popular tourist destinations. It could hold the Japanese Yen, which was great, but you couldn’t store MYR and THB for a really long time.

Earlier this year, the service finally allowed users to store Thai Baht and promised to bring the same wallet function for MYR, which went live earlier this week.

YouTrip said that the Singaporean Dollar (SGD) was relatively strong against MYR on 9 April 2025 (~S$1 to MYR3.3), resulting in a 130% volume surge seen on YouTrip’s in-app MYR conversion. Twice as many users locked in the MYR rates compared to the previous day (8 April).

So, yes, it’s to YouTrip’s benefit to accrue active users, which is also to the benefit of the average Singaporean traveller. It’s just missing a few more key currencies, like KRW and NTD, before it has everything a typical Singaporean tourist would need in one card.

YouTrip decided that the best (and possibly cheekiest) way to celebrate the addition of a MYR wallet is to throw Singaporeans inside Johor Bahru (JB), probably to spend money while using its card and app.

After all, the average Singaporean has to stand firm against challenges like higher living costs and inflation, and we should not rely on “sentiment-driven” collections for our spending needs. That means we need to shop wisely.

To that end, YouTrip offers free shuttle bus rides across the Causeway, for a limited time only.

The shuttle bus service is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 19 April to 11 May 2025, across four weekends.

The service, rallied by YouTrip, is coincidentally happening on a very cool and important weekend in the Singaporean calendar, too.

Over 15,000 slots will be available across these four weekends, operating between 9.00 AM and 9:30 PM at 30-minute intervals.

The service begins at Kranji MRT station in Singapore and ends at The Mall at Mid Valley Southkey (North Entrance), Johor Bahru, Malaysia. By our estimate, that’s roughly a 45-minute ride, not including the time needed to clear immigration.

The sign-up form for the shuttle bus slots is strictly available only at YouTrip’s Instagram page and Telegram channel. Slots are released every Monday, ahead of each corresponding weekend.

Each user can only reserve one round-trip slot, and it is non-transferable.

YouTrip has 3%, 5% and even 10% cashback to celebrate this wallet launch. Read below for details. Image: YouTrip.

To sweeten the celebration, MYR spending sees up to 3% cashback (a cumulative spend of S$200 needed).

From 16 April to 17 June 2025, 5% to 10% cashback is also available at selected stores across Malaysia. This marks YouTrip’s first-ever offline retail partnership in Malaysia.

JD Sports is the selected store for 10% cashback, while 5% cashback applies to CaRiNG Pharmacy, select Decathlon outlets, and in-store purchases from Lotus’s Malaysia.

In a note to the media, YouTrip also admitted that the purple sky seen above JB over a previous weekend (TikTok 1, TikTok 2) was a publicity stunt to promote this MYR wallet addition. YouTrip said the effect was achieved using augmented reality techniques, but details were not shared.
